Short answer: clean the spot with isopropyl alcohol, let it dry, peel the decal slowly, place it, then press firmly from the middle outwards.
What you need
- Isopropyl alcohol wipe or a little washing-up liquid and water
- A lint-free cloth
- Your decals
Step by step
- Clean it. The surface must be clean, dry and free of grease, grit and cleaning residue. Wax and polish stop decals sticking.
- Plan it. Hold the decal in place on its backing to check position. A strip of masking tape helps as a guide.
- Peel slowly. Peel the backing at a low angle so the letters stay on the transfer layer.
- Place and press. Lay it down from one end and press firmly from the centre out to push air away.
- Leave it. Give it 24 hours before washing the bike.
Top tips
- Apply indoors at room temperature. Cold frames make vinyl stiff.
- On curved tubes, work slowly and press each letter.
